Moss Says Farewell to Football

One of the most accomplished wide receivers in NFL history is apparently ready to call it quits.  According to reports, Randy Moss is set to retire from football today.  The news came as a little bit of shock as his repetitive claims in the off season boasted of how great of shape he had worked to get in to prepare for the upcoming season.  But, similar to many aspects of his colorful career, it could have just been a lot of talk.

Regardless of the negative perceptions that were brought about by his brash attitude, the former Patriot receiver has to be considered as one of the best to ever play the position.  While his time in New England was positive for the most part, it's almost as if he couldn't resist reverting back to his old tricks prior to his early exit from Foxboro.

Although his time with the Pats never produced a Super Bowl title, he and Tom Brady managed to produce one of the most prolific passing tandems for a single season in the history of the NFL.  His talents and abilities have never been questioned, but it's hard not to think that even Randy Moss has to have some regrets in how he conducted himself throughout certain points in his hall-of-fame career.

Regrets or not, the NFL has definitely lost one of the most entertaining players it has ever seen.  He possessed one of the most incredibly unique combinations of size, speed and raw athletic ability which allowed him to make the most freakishly athletic plays look routine.  Though it would be easy to dwell on the negative aspects of his roller coaster career, the innumerable amount of highlights he produced are what should be celebrated as we look back upon his great career.

Though he may not be cut from the same cloth as a Jerry Rice, the talent he displayed may not be duplicated in this league ever again.  His legacy might be slightly clouded but his place among the all-time greats is firmly solidified.  And, who knows?  Perhaps he might reconsider this decision not too long from now.  Like many other things in his career, this could be another move with ulterior motives that will ultimately benefit him.  Only time tell, but I have a feeling we might not have heard the last from Randy Moss after all.
