Green Light

Tom Brady's already rewarding off season just got a little bit brighter as the New England Patriots have agreed to a two-year deal with free agent Matt Light.  Just days after the Patriots announced the trade to acquire a key offensive target to boost Brady's offense, the news of Light's new deal has to bring yet another smile to the face Matt Light has kept so safe and looking so pretty for so many seasons now.

The deal is perfect for both sides as it allows Light to play for two more years and be productive for the organization he has spent his entire career in.  For the Patriots, the two-year deal will give first-round draft pick, Nate Solder, the perfect mentor and the right amount of time to develop under without forcing him into a starting role before he is prepared to do so.

The agreement was reached despite a certain measure of pessimism surrounding the Patriots' probability of re-signing Light.  In the end, this will most likely mean that Light will be able to play these final two years out and retire as a lifelong Patriot, which is really the way it should be for a player who has dedicated so much to this organization.
